Praevium Research Inc. is one of the only companies in the world to make Micro Electromechanical Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (MEMs VCSELs). I had the opportunity to intern with them after my first year at Cal Poly. I presented this slide deck (see right) to the company at the culmination of my internship.
Through the course of the summer I designed, built and tested a complete hardware and software system to monitor and control the process of oxidizing Crystalline layers on GaAs mirrors with the intent to control the polarity of the emitted light. I designed a software package from the ground up using Python with multithreading and PyQT libraries which allowed technicians to create a complex automated test procedure, save it, run the procedure, and control multiple hardware devices from a single application. I built a custom wireless regulator system to control the flow of nitrogen into test chambers during the process. I also upgraded a wafer test chamber to thermally isolate the bed of the chamber from the enclosure.
